Decent Rucksack
Thursday, 2 June 2016  |

Went on long hiking expedition with this light weight ruck sack - it made such a difference.

4 stars but - possibly some slipagge on the strapping particularly in the wet weather, so readjustments was required whilst walking which was anooying at times. Also quite narrow opening and deep rucksack (because it is large!), so not the easiest to pack.

But massive ability to carry loads, and very useful large outer pockets.

Best pack I've owned
Tuesday, 15 September 2015  |

I bought this for it's light weight and the profusion of pockets for 'ready use' and wet gear.

I've just returned from a 4-day trip to the Lakes and I can safely say that this is the best pack I've had so far - and I bought my first rucsac in the early 1960's.

Although I was carrying too much at 11.5 Kg (first backpacking trip for 35 years!) everything went in with space to spare.

It's a very comfortable carry whether loaded up or without hip belt and compressed down as a day sac.

I've not had it out in rain yet, but it looks as though it ought to be at least as waterproof as any other rucsac though I wouldn't use any bacpacking sac without a liner for things like sleeping bag and spare clothes.

Great Pack
Sunday, 30 August 2015  |

My wife and I just completed the John Muir Trail. We both had a Mariposa pack, mine an older 2014 version and hers a Robic. Including the training, we used the packs for probably 40 days+. The JMT was hot and the UK training was wet and often cold (!). We both used the Air-Beam backs. I really cannot fault these packs. With a 10 day food resupply, my pack was heaviest at 37.5lbs but the load shift to the hipbelt was fine. I never got sore shoulders. For longer periods at the top end of the loading recommendation I would have wanted a more padded belt, but the new Robic version has that anyway. The Air-beam was fantastic. We originally got them because we found that an Expedition sized bear cannister was not the most comfortable against our backs. The Air-Beam fixed that but I would continue using it anyway. It allows enormous flexibility. With a light pack, have it lightly inflated and it allows the pack to flex with your body. With a prolonged heavy pack, you can use varying (higher) inflation levels to alter the position of the pack and subtly shift the weight distribution. Surprisingly the Air-Beam was not overly sweaty in hot temperatures. It also worked great as part of my pillow system! The pocket arrangement on the pack is great - really flexible and capacious. I cannot recommend these packs highly enough as the start point for developing an ultralight backpacking system. These packs really did add to our enjoyment of the trip.

Perfect for children
Sunday, 26 July 2015  |

Bought this rucksack before our 2-week long hike/hitch-hike travels of Gotland, Sweden. For my 9-year old girl. "We" are a family of four children between 4 and 9 y o, and myself - father.
Since she's a small girl (129 cm and 28 kg). I bought the xs-pack with the xs-belt. And it was perfect! She started out with 8 kg, with 1,5-3 liters of water added on the 4th day of the trip. Hiking 8 km was no problem. As the trip continued the weight was reduced and, of course, the pack became more and more comfortable for her. With 6-7 kg she could barely feel she had a backpack.
The construction of the pack is very good, but it needs to be filled almost to max for the straps of the top lid to be stretched. The stability is great even if the main pocket feels a little unsturdy and loose. The hip-belt is attached to a large velcro patch on the pack and seems like it's going to come off easily...but it doesn't, at all.
All in all the pack is excellent, and the only one of that volume on the market that fits small children.
Our starting weight for the 2 weeks of travel was approx. 40 kg, including food.
Thanx GossamerGear and Backpackinglight.co.uk for making our trip AWESOME!!

Mariposa Robic
Saturday, 6 June 2015  |

Not used 'in anger' yet, but initially very pleased. The material seems robust but still light and it sits comfortably on the back. I love the large pocket on one side that swallows up my Tarp Tent and it is seems to have a massive capacity! everything I wanted.

Incredibly light and comfy
Friday, 13 March 2015  |

I took this out for a 16 mile hike and overnight camp. Loaded it with 10kg, with lots of spare clothes to make it bulky.

Verdict: very light at about 850g, a third of the weight of my old Lowe Alpine Appalachian. Very comfy also! The sit rest pad cushions and give shape well, and the lumpy side provides good ventilation. The load lifters on the shoulder straps work which is awesome! The bit which tightens the shoulder straps also clips together to make a second sternum strap which pulls the whole bag closer to your back (better centre of gravity).

However, feels more long and narrow than wide and short. Everything fits but that opening does feel tight when stuffing large items in. But loads of room!

So very impressed. Purchased additional hip belt. Looking forward to using it during Welsh north south C2C!
