Hip Belt G4Hip Belt G4

These are the last few packs and belts available. They have been demo stock used for reference. The products have now been discontinued. All in perfect as new condition.

This is it!

This is the one all ultralight enthusiasts are after and now available in Green or stealth Black.

This isn't a toy but a super light rucksack aimed purely at the purists who know exactly what they are carrying and why. The capacity is amazing when you take into account the external pockets, a staggering 52 + 13lt.

Perfect for those looking to travel far and light. The extra space being ideal for food top ups and extras which reduce over time.

This pack is supplied without any back padding system or hip belt. Like all Gossamer Gear rucksacks there is an elastic support system in the back structure which will take most folded sleeping pads on the market.

Or you can cut down an old sleeping mat and make your own. Everything about the pack is streamlined and made to suit a specific purpose.

Although capacity is large it isn't designed to be a heavy load lugger. That said, it will still carry up to a suggested maximum of 15kg. I would aim it keep it 12kg or less from experience, but needs must on a trip.

As it is supplied in a simple form it will therefore pack up small in your travel luggage so when you get where you want to be, you'll have a pack ready to go with you into the wilds.

Made to the same consistent high specification of all the Gossamer Gear packs and for those who appreciate the design and workmanship which goes into this specialist area of the outdoor industry.

After just one trip you'll wonder why you carried so much before.

You also now have the option to use the Gossamer Gear Air Frame system.

Manufactures comments - G4 BACKPACK

Quick Overview

The original – a  larger volume rucksack style pack (frameless) suited for any Ultralight load up to 30lbs. and especially good for  winter camping.

PLEASE NOTE : When purchasing this pack you will need to select a belt separately unless you choose to hike without one.

The G4™ Ultralight Backpack is one of the "granddaddies" of ultralight packs. First designed in 1998, the free downloadable instructions have been used by hundreds of do-it-yourselfers, making it the all time most-requested pattern from Quest Outfitters.  The pack features a detachable hip belt to better fit more folks and to increase the carrying capacity of the G4™ without adding weight.

The G4™ is designed to effectively incorporate the "dual use" technique of ultralight backpacking. Your sleeping pad (NightLight™ torso, Z-Lite™/Z-Rest™, Thermarest® 3/4 length, or other 20"-wide pad) becomes the pack frame by inserting into the back of the pack. This way it can be extracted during rest stops to sit/lay on without unpacking your pack.

The bottom of the pack "flares" out to provide more area for your sleeping bag to minimise loss of loft from overstuffing. The HUGE side pockets will hold, as an example, two 2-litre soda bottles on EACH side! A generous mesh pocket on the back of the pack gives you a place to put sodden items where they won't dampen the other contents of your pack.

Multiple lashing straps allow you to hang socks out to dry or secure loose or wet items onto the outside of the pack. A top lashing strap helps secure a rolled sleeping pad or similar gear to the top of the pack. Most common bear canisters will fit in the pack horizontally.

This pack is recommended for loads of 30 pounds or less.

No what you want

This is an awesome, no bells and whistles, ultralight pack at a great price.
It seems more of a multi day pack rather than an overnighter/weekender especially if you fall in the ultralight category base weight. I love the mesh pockets for storing rain gear, tarps and snacks but I found my 2 litre platypus bottle flopped about. You could use the supplied shock cord to tighten things up or maybe use two 1ltr bottles either side.
That is what this backpack is all about though, how you pack it.
I also love the Gossamer Gear way of using your inflatable mattress as the back stiffener. Save loads of space in the pack.
Overall a true classic for multi day ultra lighters / thru hikers / scouts etc.

Bob & Rose also provide the best customer service support and are always happy to help.

Many thanks guys

Classic simplicity

Ultra light, huge capacity, comfortable. Two quibbles: the mesh has been changed from earlier versions- it looks less durable, but no problems so far after a one week trip and being careful with it.
Also the webbing that forms the lower part of the shoulder straps is strangely short- I'm skinny, but I needed the straps at maximum length with no room for slackening them off.
But otherwise- perfect.
