Originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defense, Swedish FireSteel is a flash of genius. Its 3,000°C spark makes fire building easy in any weather, at any altitude.

This is slightly larger than the others we offer, but it is the real durable long life 'mans' steel and the Coconut shell handle makes it much more organic 'feel' in the hand than the plastic variety. Great for Bushcrafting as much as any other activity.

Used by a number of armies around the world, Swedish FireSteel’s dependability has already made it a favorite of survival experts, hunters, fishermen and campers. It has also found its way into cabins and backyards as a fool-proof way to light stoves and gas-barbecues.

An excellent fire steel with a softish composite, this makes it perfect for beginners and experts alike, as it allows you to generate a consistent shower of sparks which is ideal for lighting stoves or a tinder bundle. The striker has a nice edge and is comfortable to hold, highly recommend.

I have not tested this product in the field, but can report that the system certainly emits good bright sparks every time. The construction is sturdy, and easy to use. I like the additional feature of the built-in whistle (which is very loud).
As always the service was second to none, and the product was delivered within 24 hours.

Never used one of these before, always opting for disposable cigarette lighters. I'm a convert to the fire steel now though. To start with I was zapping the thing too quickly and producing impressive sparks that went flying all over the place, but with a bit of practice I now see that you get the best sparks by scraping the fire steel quite slowly. I get the best sparks by holding the flat bit still and close to the stove/tinder, and drawing the other bit upwards. This seems to help direct the sparks exactly where you need them to go. Its pretty easy using the firesteel with gloves on as well - can't do that with a disposable lighter......

Once the steel has been thoroughly cleaned it gives a reliable spark every time. It will easily light the meths in a Trangia Stove. (Although I leave the top windshield off whilst lighting.)

All in all highly recommended.
