As basic lightweight efficient stoves go, this is the little puppy people like to compare any other stove to.
At just 86g (119g in the supplied hard case) it kicks out a powerful intense heat and will bring a litre of water to the boil in less than 4 minutes in the right conditions. Subtle it ain't but if you want hot water or food fast, this is the one for you.
The gas control knob is glove friendly and it is possible to get the jet down to a reasonable simmer.
The smallest pot it will support is 6cm in diameter and the serrated pan supports will keep things in place, when you stir.
There is no ignition system, so an old lighter or flint and steel is required to ignite the stove.
Although the corner tips of the pan supports aren't sharp, they are pointed and so the tough plastic case it comes in is ideal for protecting items inside your bag.
It works well in combination with pot cosy kit to maximise fuel consumption and the Primus clip on windshield to reduce the effect of wind.
Had mine for over 10 years, still going strong no issues, still have the supplied hard case. A bit dated now as it is quite tall, and lighter/smaller/shorter stoves are out there. To save weight it will fit into a cut down 500ml water bottle, which will double as an ultralight drinking cup. Going by the amount of clones of the MSR design it's a design classic and i feel it works better on smaller 500/750ml pots than on bigger 1ltr+ pots due to the burner head size. Excellent simmer control, just a well made reliable stove that will last for years and years.
