Seal Silnylon Tent Seams and Stay Dry

No one wants to sleep in a puddle. But if you own a silnylon tent, you could end up in one—if you don’t treat the seams first. That’s because ultralight silnylon tents aren’t typically sealed at the factory.

Luckily, there’s Gear Aid’s Seam Grip + Sil™ silicone-based seam sealer. It’s fast and easy to use. The silicone adhesive in Seam Grip + Sil waterproofs tent seams with just one application. Seam Grip + Sil’s exclusive formula is not affected by extreme heat or cold. Plus, it comes in handy for repairs on moderate rips and tears.

Seam sealing with Seam Grip + Sil is the best way to keep the elements outside—where they belong.

Your ultralight shelter is only as good as its seams.
Seam Grip + Sil™ is specially formulated for sealing seams on tents and other outdoor products constructed or coated with silicone, such as silicone treated nylon. Seam Grip + Sil may also be used as an on-field repair material for moderate rips, tears and areas of abrasion.

  • Seals in one application
  •
Unaffected by extreme heat or cold
  • One tube seals critical seams on an average 2-person tent
  • Curing time 3-6 hours depending on temperature. Do not fold away your gear unless you are sure it is dry.

Applications tips: For best results in sealing tarps and tents, pitch the shelter taut on a warm, sunny day and wipe down the area with cleaning alcohol and wait for it to dry. Warmth decreases the viscosity of Seam Grip + Sil and encourages a better flow and seal. If the weather is not on your side, place the tube of Seam Grip + Sil (sealed) in a bowl of warm water and heat the seam to be sealed with a hairdryer before applying it. Repeat as necessary.

Before you start you may wish to purchase a few stiff stipple brushes from a craft shop (the type children use), as once the Seam Grip + Sil starts to cure on the brush it becomes hard to apply it neatly.

NB: Always check with the sil-shelter/tent manufacturer/retailer for advice as to which side of the seam to seal. See our How To video for tips.

Haven't camped in rain yet, so early days, can't say till then. However can't see it not working. Everything I have bought from this shop has been the same as their service, and after sales service, excellent !

Excellent sealant for SilNylon
19 May 2016  |

I have used this in making a tarp tent, both to stick patches to SilNylon and to seam seal the shelter. Easy to use reliable and effective.

Silnet (MN41)
18 March 2014  |

A great product and excellent service (as usual). However I have never seam sealed a tent before and I did not find it as easy as some clearly did despite reading the guidance and looking at a few videos on You Tube. I feel an old school report coming on - "tries hard but could do better". Obviously need more practice!

Does the job well

Thanks for sending so quickly. As always fantastic service.

Silnet is the stuff for sealing any Silnylon gear. I dilute it with white spirit so it goes further and flows better for seam penetration.

I have now done 2x Sil mini peaks with this sealant, goes on great using a small art paint brush, 2 tubes does every seam on the mini peak, I can not fault this product at all.
As always great customer service from team Cartwright
