Emergency Bivvy Bags are generally a nuisance when you are at home packing your rucksack aren't they?

You know you might need one, and would regret it if you never had one in the pack, however usually the weight and bulk of the old fashion heavy duty plastic bags does make you wonder why no one has produced something more in keeping with the lightweight philosophy.

I saw this a trade show last year and knew right away this would be a very popular little number.

Technically you can rely on it as it reflects up to 90% of radiated body heat. As the Thermo-Lite non-woven fabric is waterproof and windproof it means it is also tougher, quieter and considerably less bulky than the traditional survival sack. You can see from the image just how small it is in my hand and it weighs only 110gm

Two great advantages I consider to be very important, is that (a) the material is very quiet, so if you want to you could use it as a tent footprint (and not sound like you were sleeping on crisp packets), and (b) you can pack it away down to the original size you see here 'after' use. Something which is impossible with the traditional plastic bag.

All in all, the perfect bivvy bag. Great to know you have one when you need it, small enough not to bulk out your pack unnecessarily.

Perfect for the year round hiker, cyclists, adventure racers and people driving through snow in the winter!

Amazing lightweight insurance
Monday, 18 July 2016  |

Years ago I had heavy & bulky polythene emergency survival bags - so it's shocking to find something that does the same job in such a tiny, light package. Hopefully never have to use it, but it will be there, unnoticed in my bag. Highly recommended!

Lightweight Emergency Survival Bivvy

Hopefully I'll never need to use this but it seems a well made product. Very compact, light and an inexpensive insurance against exposure/hypothermia. Can't give it five stars until used.

Lightweight addition to First Aid

Excellent addition to my first aid/survival pack that I take on all my hikes. One of those things that you hope you won't have to use, but definately good to have. Recommended item.

It's pretty hard to rate a product before I try to die...
Thursday, 17 July 2014  |

Considering this is an emergency product, it's quite hard for me to review this before I need to use it in anger.

As it stands, the product is small (packed smaller than a can of coke) and very light. It can live happily in the corner of a bag, without me griping about the additional weight until I need to use it. It's been out of the bag, unrolled and rolled back up and in. It appears to repack well. The material is quite thin, but reflective and insulative. I would not expect to get more than one survival use out of this bag. This is fine, I consider it disposable. Certainly for the price.

Emergency Bivvy

Excellent piece of kit, replaces a dog-eared plastic bag that I've carried around in my pack for years. Small enough to go unnoticed in my pack but reassuring to know that it's there.
