What a simple and useful piece of gear to keep in the rucksack to suit all times of year and all kinds of trips. There always comes a moment when we might be concerned about the quality of the stream water we are presented with, but don't want to carry large heavy filtration systems - just in case.
Small, light and compact the straw is a plastic tube with built in filtration system and comes in another plastic tubes for packing. It will easily sit out of the way in any pack, always ready for when you may need it.
Ideal for your piece of mind, with no waiting to drink on thirsty days.
How does it work? The straw works in the same was as a manual filter pump, & NOT a purifying tablet/solution. When the water is sucked through the straw, & passes over the iodine, charcoal & resin, each element acts as a defence against their associated bacteria & waterborne diseases. In short, the straw is a series of filters, each building up resistance/cleansing/extraction properties against whatever may be present in the water source.
Instructions This purifier produces microbiologically safe water from contaminated fresh water supplies using an iodine based sterilizing agent particularly effective in the prevention of amoebic dysentery and related intestinal infections. Draw water up from impure source using mouth suction only. After use suck out surplus water, replace cap and return to outer container. Not to be used by pregnant women and people with thyroid conditions except in an emergency. Do not use in salt, brackish, or chemically contaminated water.
The Aquastraw will purify approximately 50 litres of water. End of useful life will be indicated by straw becoming blocked. Store in dry conditions below 30C.
Features Weight 17gms (22gms in tube) 18cm long x 1cm No waiting, just suck and drink! Instructions stuck on Ideal for backpackers, travellers and hikers PS: It is easier to scoup up water and bring it to the straw, than kneel down and take the straw to the water ;-)
