Care Plus recommends a DEET percentage of between 30% and 50% to be the most effective deterrent against all things that bite such as, mosquitoes, midges, ticks and horseflies. Any less than 30% is ineffective and more than 50% has no added value.
Application of this 30% DEET in gel form has been proven to be effective for 5.5 hours.
DEET based repellent will make your skin unattractive to biting insects. The smell distorts the sensors of the insect, resulting in the insect moving on to another victim. For the best result the repellent has to be used sparingly and evening on the exposed skin. It is best to put the solution on to hands first and then rub it into the exposed area. NB: It is worth remembering that a high DEET content can discolour clothing made from artificial fabrics.
DEET is a proven repellent against stinging insects (mosquitoes, midges, horseflies and ticks). It is suitable for both European regions and tropical destinations (risk of malaria, dengue and yellow fever).
We chose this 60g plastic tube as it is as small a a normal sun tan cream and light to carry. Being in gel form makes it easy to apply and less chance of spillage.
