The very popular Golite Hex 3 and now the new version the Shangri-La 3, have a great following and have proven themselves to be light, reliable, attractive and spacious shelters for the solo backpacker, bushcrafter and kayaker.
However due to the Hexagonal shape of the shelter, rectangular groundsheets which are ideal for the solo use, tend not to make the most efficient use of the available space inside the Hex or Shangri-La.
Which is where the new backpackinglight.co.uk Half-Hex Groundsheet comes in. Following a recent trip to Cape Wrath I found the complete Shangri-La groundsheet although ideal for 2 people, wasn't flexible enough for me as solo user.
I needed a cooking and storage vestibule area and I wanted to be able to get in and out without bringing mud with me. So on my return, I commissioned a local manufacturer here in the UK to make a half hexagonal groundsheet, with flat edges which now allows me to use 2/3rds of the floor space to live on, and the remainder to cook in while I prop the door open and watch the world go by.
Available in 2 materials, a blue lightweight fire retardant fabric or a heavier thicker black fabric.

It comes with 7 peg out points, which by using shock cord can be lined up with the main shelter pegs. The pole base isn't reinforced and so we strongly suggest using a motorcycle side stand plate (a hard plastic cup from any motor cycle dealer) to protect the floor, and prevent the pole from sinking during the night.
Lightweight Fire Retardent Blue Groundsheet - 310g
Heavy Duty Black Groundsheet - 560g
Maximum Dimensions: 2740cm x 148cm (approx)
