The Titanium Pocket Stove now includes the Titanium Trivet in the pack. (Nov 2019)

This enables you to use it with the stove or directly with certain burners, keeping things as light as possible.

The ultimate in 100% British designed and manufactured wood burning and multi-fuel stoves.

Manufactured from .5mm Grade 2 Titanium sheet, which is 29% thinner than the .7mm Stainless Steel model.

This also makes it 60% lighter weighing in at a total of 56g. (Standard model 141g)

Although the Titanium is obviously thinner and has a more delicate feel to the touch, it is one of the most technical, tough and durable materials available today. Due to the thickness, parts may flex with ease, however realigning the shape is simple and will not effect the longevity of the product.

The stove has no moving parts. Nothing to break down or fail. Once clipped together it forms the same sturdy cooking platform as the standard  model.

Please note, there is a natural slight warp to the flat Titanium material. Even under prolonged high heat, this warp is minor and does not effect the fantastic performance or ability to disassemble and reassemble the stove.

This is not a toy and should only be used by those with experience in using lightweight technical outdoor materials.

The following information is relevant to both models;

Welcome to the exciting world of The Pocket Stove. It does what it says on the tin! This a flat pack, clip together multi fuel cooking stove for the solo or lightweight outdoors enthusiast, 100% designed and manufactured in the UK.

Following the success of The Honey Stove and The Hive, many enthusiasts have asked for a simpler smaller solo cooking solution which incorporates the same multi-fuel features and flexibility.

After months of design and experimentation The Pocket Stove was eventually born. Weight, simplicity and functionality were all key along with bomb proof reliability. The fluted shape encourages a more intense burn from any heat source, yet provides reliable stability for the standard range of small cook pots and military shaped mugs up to 10-12 cm in diameter.

It also means that it also provides a pot support as well as windshield for most variations of pop can meths (denatured alcohol) burners. Simplicity is the key and it has been tested throughout winter, to ensure it can be assembled quickly in the cold.

The adjustable platform offers two burn heights, the top slot for esbit/hexamine tablets and the other for organic matter and pop can stoves.

With just the four panels, the standard Trangia burner will locate into the upper slot and the door locks tight. This is the best height for an intense burn. However the same burner will also locate into the lower slot offering two heat settings depending on your needs. Other 'top burning' meths (denatured alcohol) stoves can also be used.

Experimentation will indicate the best location for you heat source, either on the square plate, or placed on the ground with the four connected panels placed over the top. Finally, just three panels linked together can act as a basic windshield and pot support, should you ever require it.

Your Pocket Stove package consists of a fire door, a rear panel, 2 x side panels, a base plate and a flat pack bag.

NB: We have found that the air flow and heat output can be increased when our optional Universal Trivet is placed on top of the Pocket Stove. Especially useful during the damp weather when more 'draw' is required to burn fuel efficiently. The trivet can also be used independently with a Trangia stove.

How long does it take to boil?

Our customers indicate that the chemical make up of local Alcohol fuel does seem to effect performance. We test these items all weathers and as an example in Winter just above freezing it takes less than 9 mins to boil 2 Cups of Cold Water using a Trangia in the lower slot. (No trivet) During Spring/Summer this reduces to less than 7 minutes. Using organic matter the timing is very similar depending on how dry the material used.

Assembly options

To burn esbit/hexamine tablets

Holding the rear panel in your hand with the prongs facing upwards, slide on the two side panels either side. Place the square base into the top horizontal slot taking care to ensure the rear of the base plate is rotated correctly and placed centrally in the rear panel. Then slide on the door and the stove is complete.

To burn organic matter

Assemble as above however place the square base into the lower horizontal slot taking care to ensure the rear of the base plate is correctly placed centrally in the rear panel. Then slide on the door and the stove is complete.

To use with a Trangia burner

Assemble as above, however instead of using the square plate, just place the Trangia burner into either of the horizontal slots. Then slide on the door and the stove is complete.

NB: It does fit the Tatonka meth burner, but it a loose fit. The Toaks Siphon Stove fits neatly in the base.

Update: This White Box Stove and Decagon Stove are 'side burners' and are not suitable for use with the Pocket Stove.

Manufacture

The Pocket Stove is manufactured using .5mm Titanium which is considerably stronger than it looks. The design is exceedingly efficient at reflecting heat inwards and upwards whilst at the same time allowing the correct amount of air draw for the different cookers or fuel used.

Once heat is applied to the unit it may warp slightly. This is normal and doesn’t affect the assembly process or life span of the product.

Tinder

To start any fire you require tinder, which will catch the spark from a flint and steel, or other igniting tool. Once tinder is burning, it will in turn ignite the kindle. Small dry pieces of wood, which will burn with a greater heat and light the thicker dry fuel.

Tinder can take many forms. You can also use bark peelings from a Birch tree, wire wool or feather sticks. These are made by splitting a finger thick stick into quarters and running a sharp knife along the edge to ‘curl’ the dry core into fine slithers. Cotton wool dipped in Vaseline is very efficient as is the commercially available Hammaro Tinder Card.

Burning Wood

The stoves works more efficiently with small pieces of dried wood no thicker than a pencil. Thicker pieces take longer to ignite and are more cumbersome to collect and break. Two handfulls of these twigs will boil 500ml of water in approximately 8-10 minutes. Never use green live wood, which will just smoke and not burn. Always look for air-dried wood caught in tree branches, as these catch and burn much more effectively.

Don’t overfill the base plate with fuel before lighting, as good combustion requires good airflow. We’ve found using a small piece of Hammaro Tinder Card will ignite instantly from a flint and steel, and accelerates the lighting of dried kindle.  Once the fire is established and there is a good ‘heat’ at the base, add the thicker fuel on a regular basis, to maintain the desired cooking heat.

Fire Safety

All fuels give off noxious fumes and wood based stoves are no different. We would always advise you to light any fire in a well-ventilated area, with a good throughput of air, such as under a tarp.

NB: Remember modern artificial fabrics used in jackets, trousers, sleeping bags and tents ignite very easily. Another reason to never light a stove inside an enclosed area.

Leave No Trace

Where possible try to use some kind of ashtray beneath the stove to protect the ground. The heat generated by any stove can damage or scar the organic matter beneath. So where possible, try to ensure you place the stove over bare earth, sand, stone or use a protective matting or foil.

After use, you will see a fine ash beneath the stove gathered on the tray. Please let this cool and try to ‘leave no trace’ in your disposal. On a stone or sandy beach, you may not need the ash tray at all, however always consider your environment and please dispose of the fine ash with appropriate and responsible care.

Warning

In use this stove will get very hot. No matter the type of fuel or heat source used.Do not attempt to pick it up, move it or take it apart when fuel is burning. You will burn your hands! Please allow enough ventilation around the stove and ensure that all the component parts are cool before packing. Also ensure the ground under the stove is cool to the touch and not burned in any way. Use of petrol, or any other petroleum products in this stove may result in severe burns and/or death.

Emissions

Burning wood efficiently is almost Carbon Neutral. The efficient use of a small amount of organic matter is much more eco-friendly than the more convenient commercial fuels, such as petroleum based derivatives and natural gas (LPG).

LPG emits 15 times more CO2 (carbon dioxide) per kg than wood.Petrol based fuels emit nearly 10 times as much. CO2 is the main source of global warming.(Source - Journey To Forever)
Which wood to burn? They use this old woodman's poem ….

Logs to burn! Logs to burn!
Logs to save the coal a turn!
Here's a word to make you wise
When you hear the woodman's cries.

Beechwood fire burn bright and clear;
Hornbeam blazes too,
If logs are kept a year
And seasoned through and through.

Oak logs will warm you well
If they're old and dry,
Larch logs of pinewood smell
But the sparks will fly.

Pine is good and so is yew
For warmth through winter days
But poplar and willow, too
Take long to dry and blaze.

Birch logs will burn too fast,
Alder scarce at all.
Chestnut logs are good to last
If cut in the fall.

Holly logs will burn like wax,
You should burn them green,
Elm logs like smoldering flax,
No flame is seen.

Pear logs and apple logs,
They will scent your room.
Cherry logs across the dogs
Smell like flowers in bloom.

But ash logs, all smooth and grey,
Burn them green or old,
Buy up all that come your way,
They're worth their weight in gold.

Brilliant Piece of Kit
07 November 2022  |

I've only used this with my brass burner but it's a great bit of kit. Light, easy to use and effective.
Difficult to extinguish the burner and I have to remove the trivets in order to do so as the hole is too small on the side, but this doesn't diminish how useful it is. Recommended.

Super Stove
18 February 2021  |

Have used daily since it arrived for purposes of getting used to it, experimenting with 3 different meths stoves (bearbones 8g, diy hobo, & trangia) and with wood and it has performed well, even on blustery days.

I've found splitting & pre-chopping kindling wood to 7cm lengths makes it perfect fit for the stove, and this length wood can be carried in an old tobacco tin too - one tin will easily be enough to boil water for a pot noodle & a coffee.

A brilliant bit of lightweight no fuss kit.

A little wonder from a wonderful team
09 November 2020  |

Firstly, a word of praise for the team at BPL.co.uk, excellent communication and super fast delivery to me here in France, that alone ensures further sales in future. Thank you. Now to the stove, wow, what a terrific thing it is. Tested it a few times now and it brings my 750ml titanium cup to the boil in a very acceptable time. Didn't get the stopwatch out because that's not what the woods are for for me. I can relax and feed the stove, make a brew and pack it away in a pocket shortly after. I can't recommend the stove and the company enough.

Bought the titanium pocket stove to use primarily with my Toaks siphon & Trangia alcohol burners. There are lots of other pocket styles stove out there but this is simply the best! Versatile, ultralight and with the help of the included trivet it’s super stable. Really well thought out, a must have for every backpacker!

Proper stove & definitely not a toy !!
28 September 2019  |

Bought to use an alcohol stove pot stand with wood burning as a bit of occasional nighttime fun.

How wrong was I. This is a surprisingly serious & effective wood stove.

I boil all water & my solo cooking is based around 250 ml boils.

In the dark using wet twigs, time to put stove together, break up twigs, light with part of a firelighter (av. 8 g as weighed), 9 minutes to a rolling boil from taking stove out of pack. Most of gathered twigs remaining unused, stove burnt out, cooled down & ready to pack away before coffee drunk.

In dry conditions, found kindling usually all that is required.

It needs the trivet, careful feeding & a partial windshield with a bit of practice at home firmly recommended but if your needs are similar to mine this could be your new favourite solo stove in wood burning mode with alcohol (or esbit) only as back-up.

I used alcohol on the Arran Coastal Path earlier this year but if I'd had time to try out before I went, the pocket stove would have been taken & been my only stove with no back-up required.

Given the small amount of fuel for a boil, treed areas are probably not essential & I intend trying above tree line this winter & will let you know how I get on.
