 The new 2006 Survival Zone is probably still the best bivvybag in the world due to various simple but effective features.
Firstly it is very lightweight (350g) and packs down to 18cm/7inches taking up virtually no space in your bag. This makes it lighter and less bulky than a standard plastic survival bag!
Made of waterproof Hyperlite Storm it is seam sealed and fully waterproof with a simple pull cord allowing you to shut down the breathing hole to 2cms.
The material looks as tough and as durable as the previous Pertex fabric which I've used for several years without problems. Obviously as the bag has a breathable base it is better that the sleeping mat is placed underneath the bag and not inside. Which also prolongs its life.
Gore-Tex bags may be three times the price and sometimes four times the weight but I've found they do not work as effectively as this item in sub zero conditons. Understanding UK humidity is the key to an enjoyable night!
