Using Seam Sealing

This product cannot be machine taped as machine tape will not adhere to the silicone impregnated coating.
Sealing seams is optional. If you plan to use your product in cold dry environments, you may decide not to apply the silicone seam sealant. However if you plan to use your product in cold, damp or wet environments, applying the silicone seam sealant is recommended.

The sealing of seams should be done prior to your trip. Silicone seam sealant, if applied to a new and clean seam should only be applied once if done correctly. For a complete seal, spread the minimum possible amount of sealant evenly onto all needle holes, thread and fabric joints on the inside of the fabric.

To help achieve a clean finish it is recommended to use masking tape to mask out the application area. Use an old, but clean tooth brush to apply the sealant sparingly and evenly. Remove masking tape prior to sealant setting. Allow drying overnight for a complete cure.

Be sure to apply sealant in well-ventilated area in order to avoid inhaling toxic vapors. Before packing the product for the first time after sealing, check that the silicone is properly dry as freshly cured sealant can bond to itself even when dry. Dry silicone sealant does not crack or peel, remaining flexible in cold conditions. Unused silicone Seam Sealant should be kept in its special zip lock bag to avoid leakage from accidental puncture to the tube.
