Brand:  Vargo

The Vargo original that started it all has gotten a major upgrade since its inception in 2003. Now with a wider filling hole for faster fueling and multi-fuel capability for burning fuel tabs and gels, the Triad continues to stand apart as one of the best. (The model has now changed from T-301 to T-305).

When flipped over, the updated Triad has an indented well on the bottom of the stove for burning fuel tabs or fuel gels for all season, all terrain fueling options (also great for thru-hikes or long distance hikes when resupply fuel options are inconsistent or unknown!). The folding arms and legs of the stove double as pot supports and anchors depending upon which side of the stove is being used and make it incredibly compact for storage. Altogether these changes greatly improve the Triad's ease of use and its versatility while still incorporating the weight and features that users have grown to love about the Triad.

  • Solid titanium construction for extra durability
  • Multi-fuel capability for added versatility
  • All-season, all-terrain usability
  • Folding legs and pot supports
  • Simple to use
  • Ultra compact

the Triad Stove

this is a really nice little stove. like other purchasers, i tried it out immediately i got it. I had no problems lighting it but then i filled the stove and let a little meth trail over the surface and sparks from a ferro rod found the meths fine. i didn't bother trying out how long it would take to boil water. it needs a windshield to get the best out of it but thats ok. I'm glad i bought this stove.

Lightweight efficient stove
12 May 2018  |

Fast blooming and superlight stove and stable once fixed to the ground with the legs. Works perfectly in the Pocket Stove, or with a windshield, but you have to fill it up fully to get it to light properly.

Great service as well from backpacking light, thanks.

nice stove

Nicely made, has about 1.5 times the burn rate of a unpressurised stove, and in my tests would just bring 0.8l of 8C water to rolling boil in 13.5min and 1/2l of water from snow to rolling boil on the full fill of 35g in about 20min.

The main drawback is that it will not prime from above unless it's full. The bottom legs mean you can, very carefully, prime it with a few drops of fuel in a bottle cap from below, though this requires a fair bit of practice to get right (danger of flare). Excess fuel can be drained, but there is always some spillage.

Warm your fuel!
19 March 2018  |

This is a great little stove. The folding legs/pot stand are a brilliant design and it's incredibly light. The one little niggle is it can be difficult to light and slow to bloom. It is very important to make sure that both the stove and fuel are adequately warmed before use... stick in your pocket or up your jumper! Once going it performs admirably with the aid of a suitable windshield.

Great with windshield
08 February 2018  |

I had read so many reviews on the Triad before I bought it. Many were negative, weak performance, goes out, unstable. When I first tested it in the kitchen it sort of performed and very slowly boiled an MSR Titan Kettle. Then I made an aluminium foil windshield. 15cm high and quite close fitting (maybe a 1cm gap all round the kettle) and WOW the stove just took off! Outside at 2 degrees C and in heavy rain it boiled a full Titan Kettle. The stove is OK without a windshield but a few folds of foil to make a windshield will take it from OK to awesome.

Triad Stove

I gave this strong little Stove a 'garden' trial on receiving it. Very pleased as I can use it with my ti-tri Stove which I could only use with the correct size tins. Now, because of the pan supports, I can boil up a mug of water for a cuppa. I tested burn time - a full 25 minutes (10/15 mins simmering time) with a full charge of meths. Esbit tablets boiled a cup of water reasonably quickly, messy residue though. Also, compact size means it could be used with just tablets/gel making a mega-light cooking system.

Great Little Stove
23 July 2017  |

I've had an ongoing relationship with meths for years. I've really wanted to like it but found it far too impractical; difficult to light, impossible to regulate, pans blackened, scorch marks on cookware etc. This stove is the only meths stove I use.

Unbelievably light, rock solid in use due to the legs, no maintenance, nothing to go wrong. Watch the video as warming the stove and fuel in your pocket makes ALL the difference and means you can light the stove with flint & steel. You also must fill the stove completely if you want it to bloom. You can recover the unburnt fuel afterwards but in practice this is a bit messy and the reason for deducting a star. Overall, this is fantastic little stove and, after all these years, the one to finally convert me to meths (although I still use gas for camping and non-ultralight backpacking).
