The dual-fuel Vargo Titanium Triad XE Alcohol/Fuel Tab Stove picks up where other alcohol stoves fall short. By burning either denatured alcohol or fuel tabs, the Triad XE becomes your all-season, all-terrain, go-to ultralight stove. Use the inner canister to burn your choice of alcohol or when faced with high altitude or subfreezing temps remove the inner canister and add one or more fuel tabs. Don’t let your alcohol stove hold you back on your next excursion!

This stove works most efficiently in conjunction with a suitable windshield and with the 3 feet pressed into the ground for maximum stability.

In use with Methylated Spirits: Remove central canister and twist off lid. Fill to the desired level. Lightly press lid back in place to create a seal, but not too tight. Prime stove by drizzling a small amount on the container lid and then light.

In use with Solid Fuel Esbit/Hexamine Blocks: Remove central canister and place to one side. Place block in tray and light.

  • Dual-fuel capability for all-season, all-terrain use
  • Removeable inner canister to easily switch from alcohol or fuel tab burning mode
  • Retractable top and bottom legs for excellent pot and stove support
  • Compact design makes it incredibly packable
  • Solid titanium construction

  • Weight: 1.5 ounces (42 grams)
  • Outer Canister (folded): 3.2 inches (80 mm)
  • Outer Canister (legs extended): 3.9 inches (99mm)
  • Inner Canister: 2.4 inches (62 mm)
  • Total Height: 1.2 inches (30 mm)
  • Fuel capacity: 1.25 ounces (37 ml)
  • Burn time: ~15 mins (alcohol), various burn times for fuel tab(s)

Use only in a well ventilated area! Never use stove indoors!

Only use denatured, ethyl, or methyl alcohol or solid stove fuel tabs as fuel! Attempting to burn other fuels such as white gas, kerosene, unleaded gas, etc. will potentially cause an explosion and serious injury.

Be sure the flame is fully extinguished and the stove is completely cooled before refueling to prevent flare ups!

Always anchor stove legs into the ground to prevent the lit stove from tipping over!

bit disapointed
Sunday, 11 September 2016  |

I am sorry to sat I'm a bit disappointed with this stove. I mainly wanted to use this in meths mode, but it's such a pain to get lit. Even testing in the garden it took a couple of squirts of meths to get it to bloom. Once going it does produce a nice burn if a bit vulnerable to being blown out. I would be reluctant to take this as my only stove if I was going to be camping anywhere exposed or windy as I could see myself losing patience with it quite quickly.
Out of curiosity I have tried this with Gel, this does seem to work better even if the fuel is more expensive. It does also leave a burn residue on the stove that needs cleaning off. This will act as glue if you use the meths burner afterwards needing a tent peg to pry it off afterwards

Finally, the right combination of fuel capacity and flexibility, heat output (not too much, not too little), stability, simplicity and weight. Happy.

Fab little stove
Tuesday, 5 November 2013  |

I bought this after looking carefully at the Triad, but decided that I wanted more options.

Other reviews on this have been a tad unfavourable, but I have nothing but praise for it. The instructions state to apply a few drops of alcohol to the top of the stove, but it's far easier to flood it a bit so that the meths (or whatever) runs over the side and pools in the bottom. That way, there is far more primer to get it going.

Once lit, I had a burn time of about 10 minutes in total, and brought 2 cups of cold water to a boil in about 6. I can't be accurate on exactly how much meths I used, but I'm guessing it was about an ounce.

I have since tried this with a windshield as well and this improves both the priming and the burn time. I haven't tried it with esbit tabs as I hadn't any to hand.

All in all, I'm very happy with this. I can see myself using this for doing the bacon to go along with the pasta/carbonara that's boiling from my trangia alongside!

Very happy camper

A Fine Dual Fuel Stove
Sunday, 20 October 2013  |

This Vargo duel fuel titanium stove is very light and I found it excellent with hexamine tablets both for a fast boil and for simmering with a quarter block It is very firm and stable when pushed into soft Peak District turf. The meths burner is a bit more fidly and does not light easily if an inadequate amount of meths is poured on the cover. I prefer the White Box stove for a faster boil and a little more convenience.
