The Solo II stove is a shorter version of the extremely popular White Box “Next Generation” stove.

It holds about 45ml (1.5 oz) fuel compared to the Next Generation capacity of 75ml (2.5 oz).

Both are made from the same aluminium bottle however the Solo II is 12mm (1/2 inch) shorter.

As the stove itself supports the pan, there is no need for a pan support. However due to the diameter, always make sure you check your pan of water sits correctly on the stove before lighting it.

It has a total burn time of about 13 minutes. This stove was designed with a smaller diameter fire ring and is suitable for pots like the MSR Titan Kettle, Snow Peak Trek 900, Vargo .9L Kettle, Firelite 900, Optimus Terra Kettle, GSI Pinnacle, etc.

Both White Box Alcohol Stoves incorporate a "Cope Roll" instead of rivets. The rolled edge seals the two parts of the stove making an unbelievably strong top rim and a stove that will hold more than 300 pounds of weight. With the two walls sealed tight the flame pattern is more consistent than any other bottle stove. You will never have to worry about broken rivets, burned out tape or broken and faulty wicks with the new White Box Alcohol Stoves.

Personally I prefer lighting all alcohol stoves using a flint and steel, Much safer than matches, lighter and bits of paper and you never burn your fingers.

Solo stove only suitable for pans near the size of millennium falcon.

This stove is great, lightweight, self pot stand, burns hot etc. However still burns with similar radius to original stove. Using msr titan kettle (about 2/3 full, 600ml ish) water failed to reach boiling after 13min. With a pan bigger than 12cm diameter one will likely have a litre or more so I would think more than one filling will be required... Imagine it's great for frying! M

Not sure what you were expecting here as the solo stove is the same diameter as the bigger Next Generation version so naturally the flame spread will be the same. As it is smaller it holds less fuel so obviously will not burn as long, thus you wouldn't expect it to boil a large volume of water. Both stoves require a wide pan as described to ensure they capture as much heat as possible.

A beautifully engineered piece of minimalist design. The flame pattern is surprisingly wide, so will be suited to wider based pots. Another investment in a happy future!

Excellent little stove that fits in your mug. Fuel efficient with a windbreak. Get some of those foil pie dishes (5 for a pound), cut to shape with scissors and they make an excellent reflector and windbreak for this stove. Cannot recommend enough. So light and small you can put it in yr daysack on day trips. Used 250ml meths on a two day camp.

first week

I have just got back from week in the lake district with this stove. I got this as a lighter replacement to the Trangia triangle setup I was using previously. well it's definitely lighter and just as quick to boil A few thing to note though, it is a bit of a grass burner when placed on the ground. It says there is a heat reflector/stand but this isn't included anymore looking at my experience and other reviews. I just used my ti plate as a base which provided a good base. I did have an issue on one evening in a strong swirling wind with keeping it alight but once it had been blooming for a couple of minutes the burn was strong enough to stay alight.
This may come across as a bit negative but I do like this stove. You buy something like this to save weight and have to accept some compromise on performance. If I am base camping out of the car I have plenty of better stoves but for 2/3 season backpacking I think you could do a lot worse
