| Platypus bottles, what can we say? Complete with closure cap which has the same thread as the Hosers. 2 sizes to choose from 1 litre and 2 litre. HOW DO I CLEAN MY PLATYPUS OR NALGENE BOTTLE? Use hot, soapy water and rinse thoroughly with hot water. It is best if you use a bottle brush to reach into the seams of the Platypus and the threads of both the Platypus and Nalgene bottle. For tough cleaning jobs, add 1/4 cup of baking soda to 3/4 cup of water (double for larger containers) and shake for 30 seconds. Add 1/4cup lemon juice, shake 10 seconds, and vent by loosening cap away from face. Repeat shaking and venting three times. Expel as much air as possible, cap bottle, and allow to soak 20 minutes. Rinse three times with hot water. Caution: When adding lemon juice to baking soda, effervescence occurs and will cause pressure to build in a capped Platypus or Nalgene bottle. HOW DO I DRY MY PLATYPUS OR NALGENE BOTTLE? Platypus bottles and Hoser reservoirs can be dried by blowing a little air into them and letting them stand uncapped until the water evaporates. Big Zip reservoirs are easily dried with a dishtowel through the large opening. You can also prop them open with a spoon or other utensil and let them air dry. FOR BEST RESULTS IN HYGIENE AND WATER TASTE, DO AIR DRY YOUR WATER CONTAINERS BETWEEN USES!
You can put a variety of beverages in your Platypus or Nalgene bottles and reservoirs. Just make sure you clean it thoroughly after each use to prevent bacteria from growing in the reservoir and/or tube. ALSO NOTE: IF YOU USE YOUR BOTTLE FOR BEVERAGES OTHER THAN WATER, IT MUST GO UP IN THE BEAR BAG WHEN MAKING CAMP. This greatly increases the weight of the bear bags. Therefore, we will generally insist that bottles are empty before going into the bear bag.
To disinfect platy add one ounce of unscented household bleach (such as Clorox Regular or Clorox Ultra) to one liter of clean water. Mix for 10 seconds. Fill Platypus or Nalgene and drinking tube, if you are using a hydration pack version, with solution and leave filled over night. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.
Lay Platypus in a pot and keep mostly covered with water. Make sure that the Platypus is not resting on the bottom or sides of the pot. Also, do not cover the pot when boiling. Watch your Platypus for pressure building up in the bottle if water insideis boiling. Do not microwave your Platypus. You can fill a Nalgene bottle with boiling water and then empty. Dip the cap and threaded portion of the bottle into boiling water.

24 September 2013 | Darren These are really great water bottles, can't fault them at all, they are strong and well made, just keep them away from bits of wood with nails in as my wife managed to put my full 2 litre bottle down on one much to my disappointment. This review has not been appraised.

23 August 2013 | Brenda My current water bag was a robust one. Needing something lighter I knew that Bob and Rose at Backpacking Light would have the answer. The Platypus water bottle fits the bill exactly. Light and folds down small when not in use. Ideal. This review has not been appraised.
04 August 2013 | Pete Water carriers are never going to be the ultimate in cool tech, but no-one would ever dream of going out and about without one. So why not make it light, packable and so handy, and this does such a good job of it. Simples! This review has not been appraised.
