This is perfect multi-purpose tool for the lightweight backpacker and traveller. Use it around camp for shaving, applying makeup or as part of the first aid kit for looking at those 'hard to get' tick hiding places!
Unlike metal or glass based mirrors this lexan polycarbonate item floats, which is useful when you have soapy hands!
At 52mm x 76mm and only 26g this slips into the smallest of wash kits. A space to attach a laynard is also provided.
As an emergency signaling device it can attract attention across many miles (depending on atmospheric conditions). Best results are obviously achieved when the air is clear and the sun is well above the horizon. However it can be equally effective on hazy or overcast days.
What makes the starflash mirror unique, is the built in precision aiming system to help you target your signal flashes accurately. When using the mirror for signaling, select an area as open as possible with clear view of sky and, if possible, horizon. During daylight hours, stand facing the sun and reflect the light onto your hand. Look through the mirror star and a bright area will indicate your aiming point.
Now slowly turn and angle the mirror until you 'place' the aim indicator directly on the object you wish to flash. Continually sweep the horizon even if no one is in sight.
A series or consistent pattern of flashes is widely recognized as a distress signal. Remember, it may take some some for someone to see your signal and to summon help. Keep at it.
