These are unique hand made fleece sit mats made by patiently by Rose during the last few months. They are incredibly warm to sit on. Initially it all started as presents for friends and family and once word got out, commissions followed for people to use them on their cold outdoor furniture.
Using them outdoors instead of the usual inflated mats provides an extra comfort level and people who like to keep things as ‘natural’ as possible love them. Both practical and pleasing.
Each one takes a minimum of 4 hours to make and the coloured ones add an extra 2 hours to include the dying process. Plus of course overnight to allow the fleece to be fully air dried.
All the fleeces are locally sourced from farmers within half a mile. This year it included a mixture of Jacob, Ryeland, Cotswold and a Zwartble.
Each one has to be sorted for quality before being washed by hand in a big tin bath followed by drying slowly in the open.
Once dry, the wool is carded into rolags before being woven on a peg loom to make the final sit mat.
Over time and use the wool will flatten and felt, but will still retain its amazing natural insulating properties.
So we have dyed some of the white fleece, to add more individual colour to some of the sit mats. Obviously this is an additional expense in time and money and consequently these mats are a little more expensive.
NB: If you see one you like, please use the title in the photo (eg Brown 3) in the customer comments box. If it has already gone we will supply the closest look.
More stock will be made over time if demand increases.
