The Exped Lightning backcountry packs are all about moving fast and light on multi-day backpacking adventures. The unique T-Rex frame uses a central stay with direct dock to the hipbelt for better load control and weight transfer to your hips.
A push suspension system enables quick torso length adjustment while allowing for a high degree of hip belt and upper body motion.
The best part of each sack is the adjustable back length which means one size will fit all! The full range will cover everyone from a small back length to extra long. Approximately fitting those from 5'5" to 6'4".
However those around the 5'5" need to keep in mind the metal stay which is then exposed above your head needs to be adjusted to avoid it interfering with headwear etc.
Although the max load limit is suggested to be 20kg, the comfort limit with the padded straps is more likely to be between 12-15kg.
The side compression straps now have the option to go through OR over the side pockets. This is a major improvement and improves ease of access to items you might store in the side pockets during your walk.
The roll-top closure and minimal seams throughout the entire pack body provide good weather resistance as well as simple access to your gear. With a very streamlined design, these top loader packs combine lightweight performance of 1 kg with solid load control at all times.
The Lightning backcountry packs are made out of a lightweight and durable 210D nylon fabric with Dyneema grid reinforcement for extra durability. Two stretch side pockets on the main pack body make good water bottle holders and the zippered hip belt pockets are perfect for storing your camera and cell phone.
Full body compression straps help further streamline an overly bulky load. Bottom gear loops and bungees attached to the pack enable you to secure your hiking poles when not in use.
Made of durable and lightweight Dyneema Gridstop fabric and featuring Exped's exclusive T-Rex single stave frame, these packs balance plenty of volume, weight reduction, freedom of movement, durability, back ventilation, and roll-top weather protection. Exped's hallmark innovation and clean design lines are immediately noticeable.

Backpacking light's service was efficient and friendly as usual. So far the rucksack appears to be great. Firstly, it's large for a 45 litre bag; i can comfortably fit in all my gear for a few days out in the mountains, longer in 3 season conditions; it's lightweight and yet still has a robust hip belt, a single stay that transfers weight effectively to the hips (though a dual stay design still makes more sense to me due to it keeping the frame well away from the spine - that said, i gently curved the single stay and so far haven't had any discomfort against my back), and it has enough pockets to make organisation straightforward - the clever, dual entry hanging pocket partially replaces a top lid if the bag is not over stuffed and the generous hip belt pockets can take pretty much anything you would commonly need at hand. The water resistant 210D ripstop appears to be strong enough, though it is worth noting the bottom is not double layered or reinforced and the side pockets are stretchy mesh - time will tell if it is sufficiently robust, but so far i'm quite optimistic. The only thing i'm slightly skeptical about is the slightly overly complicated compression system - i'd prefer two horizontal side compression straps, but i understand the weight saving design and it does do what it was designed to do well, and is removable if you don't need it. Finally, the price of the Lightning 45 at backpackinglight.co.uk was the cheapest i could find. Thanks
Lightweight, easy to use, very comfortable, and good looking. Would recommend to anyone looking for a pack of this volume. Customer service was the quality you'd expect, friendly, quick, and the item arrived well packaged.
