This great bivvy bag has quietly crept in from Rab and has many quality elements to make the lightweight bivvy experience quite simple.

It comes with a waterproof base and breathable upper. This means you can use it with your sleeping mat 'inside' the bag. You can also use it as a ground sheet and sleep on top of the bag.

With something like the Survival Zone you have to place your sleeping mat 'under' the bag and even though you can use it as a ground sheet, it doesn't have the same hydrostatic head as the material used in this one.

It also is available in the establish 'low visibility' olive green and therefore perfect for bushcrafters and anyone wanting to keep a low profile when camping on the hill.

There's a full head zip to enclose you in really bad conditions, and even thought the material is breathable, we would always suggest leaving a small hole for water heavy breath vapour to escape. Otherwise the inside of the any bivvybag get very wet, very quickly.

Lightweight, value for money, waterproof and breathable bivi bag.

  • Waterproof, breathable Hyperlite Storm fabric
  • Heavy duty 5000mm laminated nylon waterproof base
  • Side walls maximise sleeping bag loft
  • Vented zip with storm flap

Bivvy bag for all seasons?
Wednesday, 17 June 2015  |

I'm not a great one for having too much of my ageing bod stuck outside of a snug abode for the night, so I bought this bivvy bag as a (very) reasonably priced guard against the weather on my occasional tarping trips. I say occasional - I am out for at least 2 x 2 week-long trips including Scotland in April/May, and nearly every weekend, some 2-nighters, sometimes just the one, all year round and therefore in all weathers - so am probably 'under canvas' (just doesn't sound the same and won't ever catch on, 'under nylon/polyester'!) 100 nights a year, so I do get to play with all the toys in my toy box although some might argue I have too many toys... I have yet to try this in severe weather so can't comment there, but I bought it mainly as it is a really decent size (zipped up it doesn't feel too claustrophobic, and is broad and deep enough in the chest area for a broad, deep bloke) without being too heavy, and because it is 2/3 'top', breathable, and 1/3 groundsheet which feels tough enough - you could use it to sleep on rather than in if the weather is right. It's a bit heavier than the stated weight, but not much. Whether it performs as well as bags 2 or 3 times the price, I will never know as this one works just fine! But maybe the pricier ones work better in marginal conditions. Yogabob.

Waterproof and discrete
Thursday, 17 October 2013  |

I slept out in the Storm Bivy for about 5 nights altogether (with an Ascent 500 sleeping bag) and it did its job just fine. I can't claim that I've tested it in extreme conditions but it did rain a bit and the bag worked as it should. It was a bit damp on the inside when I woke up but that's expected from any waterproof bag.

Oh and the dark green colour is great camouflage. I even slept rough in someone's front garden one night and they came outside and were stood meters away from me, having a smoke and didn't see me. Hah!
