The Survival Zone is probably still the best bivvybag in the world due to various simple but effective features.
Firstly it is very lightweight (420g) and packs down to 18cm/7inches taking up virtually no space in your bag. This makes it lighter and less bulky than a standard plastic survival bag!
Made of 70 denier Hyperlite fabric it is seam sealed and fully waterproof with a simple pull cord allowing you to shut down the breathing hole to 2cms.
The very light material is tougher than it looks and I've used my old Pertex SZ for many years without any issues. Obviously as the bag has a breathable base, it is better that the sleeping mat is placed underneath the bag and not inside. This enable the breathing to take place all around your body, and prolongs its life.
Gore-Tex bags may be three times the price and sometimes four times the weight but I've found they do not work as effectively as this item in sub zero conditons. Practise and understanding UK humidity is the key to an enjoyable night!
Measurements: 230cm long and at its widest 75cm. Suitable for someone up to 188cm (6'2") tall. Colour: Olive Green Weight: 420g Approx
Please note that the purple colour shown in the picture is no longer available.
Used this recently while instructing on a Mountain Leader Assessment, and am very impressed. I chose to do away with a stuff sack for my sleeping bag and kept it in the bivy bag - just stuffed the lot into the bottom of my rucsack (kept the sleeping bag perfectly dry). Once the tent is up, just unroll the sleeping bag/bivy bag combo - always happy to reduce the amount of faffing about with stuff sacks..... As a sleeping bag cover the Survival Zone protected my bag from damp really well. I used an OMM Mountain Raid on the assessment that should have been a bit chilly, but was warm enough inside the Survival Zone Bivvy.
