The latest incarnation in the Luxe lightweight series of teepee style tents which offer numerous options in configuration for more than one person.

There are so many options with this shelter that the forthcoming video will hopefully explain just how flexible it is.

However out of the box, we have the shelter and the inner which will easily sleep 4 adults over 6 foot.

There are two doors and vestibules which will help with air flow and storage. Certainly big enough for rucksacks and kit storage.

The floor space is huge and there is certainly room to move about when sheltering away from the weather.

As a shelter only tarp tent, you could almost hold a party in there. Ideal for families, small groups, kayaking, bushcraft and so on.

As the photos show. You can actually fit one or two V4 Hex Peak Inners inside too. Which then would give you more variety and space of course depending on your needs.

The latest option is a Double Inner, which would then leave you the other half of the tent for storage and cooking.

The packed size is good too. Certainly ideal for motor cycle tourers and possibly a group of cyclists sharing.

It comes with 8 long pegs for the base of the shelter which needs a further 7 for the additional adjusters in the centre of each panel. Or you could use them for the guying out points half way up the sides. However the additional 3mm cord needed is not supplied so that is something to take into account. I would suggest a 30m pack.

The pole options are numerous. The 197X Pole will support the shelter easily for average 3 season use, however under tension the pole will flex slightly. This is why the heavier 231X pole is offered if you intend to tension all the guys and erect the shelter in heavy weather.

If the consideration is to be lighter then I have tried it with 2 walking poles linked together and this works fine, strong and stable. However once again it will flex when under heavy tension.

All in all I think this offers users a fantastic super stable shelter for a whole variety of uses. It is supplied with seam sealer and instructions as to where to apply it, if needed.

One additional comment would be to purchase an additional storage bag to split the inner and the outer. The fit of the main back is too tight to make life easy.

Top tips for a stable shelter in all weathers

If the supporting pole sinks at any stage the material will lose all the tension and the tent can become unstable in high winds, with the possibility of the pole moving.  The common tip here is to cut a tennis ball in half and use each half at either end of the pole. It prevents the pole from sinking and also reduces the pressure on the peak. Once this is in place, applying tension on all the surrounding guys will maintain tension throughout the night. Some use Marmite caps or Rebar Mushrooms.

In excessive wet weather we have had occasional reports of the supplied guys slipping in the cleats. A simple overhand knot will stop this. Alternatively replacing the guys with our 2mm Dyneema cord will jam in the cleats nicely.

Hot Tenting

There appears to be a certain amount of confusion currently regarding what is a stock item available from Luxe in the UK and
the customised 'hot tent' option which appears to be on offer in the US.

Currently Luxe Hiking Gear (the US importer/retailer) is customising the V4a, F6a, F6e and F8a to order adding a stove jack as the customer requires.

We are unable to offer this service in the UK currently, so if this is something you require please contact them directly using the below links.

Great for back packing with a family
20 April 2022  |

Bought this tent pre COVID and have been waiting to get to Wales for a couple of years. After a lot of research this tent certainly looked the best weight to space ratio. Took the family consisting of 2 adults and 1 child away for 6 nights. We purchased the tarp pole and additional guy lines. Although I used the tarp pole I also tried my Leki walking poles and doubly secured them with the tents own velcro strap, the walking pole solution was more than adequate for the conditions we faced. The tarp pole was an extra 500g of weight I could have left at home. The additional guy lines I placed at each corner and this bolted the tent to the ground. We also purchased additional titanium pegs and this was money well spent.
The tent was spacious enough for us and 3 rucksacks, with crouching head room near the centre of the pole for changing. At no point did it feel cramped, with some good housekeeping we had plenty of space. The set up and tear down was really quick. I carried the outer and inner as the child is only 10 years old and was quite happy with the weight.
We had one day of torrential rain, when erected the tent kept the wet out and the seam sealing worked a treat. Once we started to take the tent down the outer and inner quickly got wet. At the next campsite and once the rain had stopped 30 minutes after it was erected the walls of the tent were dry again. I found the ground sheet did allow moisture through when the ground was sodden which got the kit damp but again this quickly dried out the next day.
All in all this is a quality lightweight product that suited our needs for space and the harsh Welsh environment. The owners of the site also erected this tent in their garden so the wife got to travel to see before we bought. Great tent and great customer service, very happy indeed.

Versatile and a good size
23 July 2021  |

Just come back from 4 sweltering days in one of these. We were really grateful for the straight-through ventilation option. It coped well with a random cloudburst also. Moreover, the other week it went to Skeggy to house three teens on a post-GCSE holiday, demonstrating that it can also cope with less experienced users. Pleased to have got this, an excellent tent.

Luxe Octopeak
25 March 2019  |

Very happy with this tent, having used it a couple of times now. The amount of space is superb for the weight and pack size - I think its almost unique as a backpackable truly family size tent. When walking as a family of five we've previously used two three man tents, each of which weighed as much as the octopeak. So this purchase has enabled us to halve the weight of tent we carry. And despite officially sleeping four it will fit five, on five adult-sized sleeping mats, though admittedly there's not much space for anything else once everyone's lying down! The pyramid shape has been as good as people say at shedding wind in some very squally conditions in the Cairngorms. Seam sealing was straightforward with the seam sealant included, though was slower to dry than I was expecting (about a week of airing indoors before I was happy to roll it back up). Any downsides? Well, the vestibules are ok for keeping your boots out of the rain, but are just a little bit small for cooking, in my opinion. However, its easy enough to guy out the bottom corner of the door to leave a space which is sheltered, if not completely enclosed, in which to brew up from inside your sleeping bag. So overall, I'd thoroughly recommend this tent to anyone wanting lightweight accommodation for a family of up to five on the move.

Octapeak F8 - First Impressions
15 May 2018  |

Coming from a Shangri-La 3 I've used this type of tent extensively for the past 10 years. Easy to pitch, tensioning on the pegging points is superior to the Go Lite and allows for excellent tensioning. Interior space is large and should easily provide enough space for my wife and two young kids (the main reason I bought this tent over the smaller version).

Pack size and weight is good and easily carried between two people. I am going to add additional guylines to the attachment points half way up the sides as this will pull out the fabric further. I will buy an additional pole as the pole from the Shangri-La isn't quite long enough to pitch the Octapeak.

Main reason for not giving 5 stars is the need to seam seal the tent. I was expecting this so it's not a surprise but in the first use in persistent rain there were definitely several smaller drops coming through the tent so this is next on my list of jobs. On a plus side no water came in through the floor which was an issue with the GoLite.

Overall an excellent tent for the money and I'm seriously toying with buying a smaller one for solo use in the hills.

Great tent
23 April 2018  |

Unbelievable interior space for the pack size / weight / price. It fits easily in a rucksack with our other gear, so it's going to be perfect for our family of 4 to go camping without needing to be close to the car. It's also plenty big enough to hang out in if the weather turns bad; in particular the headroom makes it incredibly practical vs other "family" hiking tents which can only just squash 4 people in like sardines. Seems very well made to boot.

For Cycle Camping
30 June 2017  |

I recently used this for the first time at the York Cycle Rally and found it to be ideal. With the V4 inner I could sleep and store my panniers within the inner. For security I could also fit my bike in the tent, simultaneously using a chair. Two bikes were stolen at the rally so keeping the bike in the tent is more of a deterrent than laying it on the floor at the side of a small tent. The weights are good for such a spacious option. I would recommend this set up highly for cycle camping.
